Thousands of communities around the world struggle to provide their members with basic access to health care and services. Though we hope to expand our work to several of these areas, our current project addresses the needs of those in the greater region of Mbarara, Uganda. Particularly problematic to this community is the high incidence of malaria. In fact, in 2003 alone, 487,926 cases of malaria were recorded in the Greater Mbarara area, which has a population of about 1,000,000 people.

The average age of a sex slave in the United States is fourteen.
Younger have been reported - and older- as more and more accounts of American youth being forced to sell their bodies for the whims of others flood into our justice system. Programs are being implemented to rescue and help heal these victims, the government is taking notice and communities are seeing the trade that has been going on under their noses.
So what's the problem?
Of all of these groups, none of them include students.

The community that I am helping through participating in CURTIS Week is Bridgeport, CT. I worked directly with various diverse populations. Some of the problems addressed in working with these populations included homelessness, opressed and underserved, those in need of company and compassion. I, along with other students from my school worked with a local family to build their own home with Habitat for Humanity. I cooked food and served food at several soup kitchens in the area and even had the experience of speaking to members of the community who were in need of a hot meal.

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (GLBTQ) community faces discrimination and prejudice on a daily basis. Most members of the GLBTQ community, especially its youth, are forced into silence from the fear, harassment and violence they face every single day.

Lulwanda Children's Home, to me, is home away from home. This summer, I spent three weeks as a missionary from my church, evangelizing and teaching basic hygiene to the villagers of Mbale, Uganda. This was the greatest experience of my life. The children of Uganda have taught me the most valuable lessons one could ever learn. Unconditional love, patience, happiness, and humility.

There is a lack of cooperation in the global nonprofit sector caused by visa restrictions on international service, the cost of international service programs and historical assumptions of developed world superiority. There are creative and effective answers to many issues such issues as ending poverty, empowering women and stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS, but the current structure of the global nonprofit sector impedes the dissemination of these ideas.

I will like to help everyone that is interested in learning more about sexual transmitted diseases. Especially those in low income households’, kids that don’t have anyone to talk to, countries that have little to no capital to teach them, target public schools, communities, and everyone with an internet access. I strongly believe that this project will help thousands of Americans across our country. Especially in this society that we have adults, kids, teenagers misinformed in need of proper information.

When in grammer school i had my very first boyfriend. After we graduated we still remained very close friends. Our sophomore year in high school he died of AIDS. It had turned out he was very sexually active when we were younger. He never looked sick at all. His mother didnt even no. He was too scared to get tested. Lucky for me we never had sex but those he did never had a clue until they died an unfornately a few of those ladies did contract the virus. This bothered me because even though he was my best friend i was mad he didnt care enough about himself or others to get tested.

It is the right for everyone to marry. I will do whatever needs to be done so that all lesbians have the right to marry in any state.
