My goal is to help the eating disorder community of our world. I was anorexic for a year and a half, and sometimes I still struggle emotionally. It's a really hard thing, and I want girls and boys alike, of all ages and nationalities and shapes, to understand that it isn't about what shows on the outside, but rather what lies within a person. I'm trying to raise awareness about eating disorders

My organization is called It's What Lies Within. It is simply just a small business where I make t-shirts that say just one word on them. The impact of the word is how you look it, but they are all inspirational somehow. The shirts sell for 12-15 dollars. I also make measuring tape braclets to raise awareness. They branched off the 'livestrong' type idea, but are very different. The braclets purpose is to make people aware of how difficult it is to have an eating disorder, and how people with the disease can be doing something completely different and nonrelated, but look down on themselves and realize the disease is still with them. 15% of all profit is going to NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association).

Since about July of last year I have been making t-shirts. I have painted all of them by hand and made homemade screens, which is inexpensive, but VERY time consuming. I have made a free web site, and I have sold 6 shirts. I have really started to get peoples attention and curiousity about what I am doing. I have discussed the issue with a lot of people. Also, recently I got the phone number of a women who works with UNC during National Eating Disorder Awareness Week and she would like me get involved with that, be a spokes person and model for their fashion show, and show my shirts. Just through my words I try to show It's What Lies Within. I have been told I am a inspiration, but I just believe I know how to pull the inspiration out of people so they can inspire themselves.

Others can help by buying shirts, or braclets, getting the word out about what I'm doing. Also, any grants or donations you feel comfortable with giving. Also, everyone, try to be less judgemental of others, and watch your words, because they sting worse than words sometimes. Try to see the beauty in everyone, and feel beautiful in your own skin.
