We live in a small community with several small suronding communities. We live close to several Native American Reservations and many people have families that struggle to make ends meet. The food bank we send the food to helps those families.

It’s our goal at MAVOC to first and foremost help the students on our campus become more aware and be more accepting of the diversity that surrounds them on campus. We also want to help the students who don't feel like they have a place on campus really have a place to belong and be apart of an organization that can make a difference. Our motto is "Simunye" [sim-u-nae] which is a South African phrase meaning "We Are One."

On Valentine's Day, 2009, people of all ages and backgrounds will disperse into the community to personally hand out roses to complete strangers living in rough conditions. This small gesture has the potential to change the lives of many people.
I am very passionate about improving my community and making it a move loving and peaceful place. I have worked with a larger number of young activist and being around them is usually very inspiring, but many times I see so many people whose hearts are in the right place pointing out everything that is bad or wrong with the world around us.

Our Group, BHS Go Green, working with the Village to rake the yards of community members. Each year, the Village gets rid of lawn debris, leaves and branches, but we use so many bags and it's a hassle for some of our elderly community members.

Our group is based out of West Frankfort, located in Franklin County, Illinois. Franklin County is an economically-struggling county with a lot of determination to keep on keeping on.
In 2003, I heard of a local girl, about 12 at the time, who had been diagnosed with terminal leukemia. Her family did not have the money to visit her at St. Judes and we wanted to do something to help them get there to be with her. That's how our group got started.

We Guidance came up with the idea to ask our church, family, and community leader to make a dish and help server to the community.

Lunenburg Nova Scotia is a rural community on the south shore of the Atlantic provinces. At one time the town was a prosperous fishing village but since the collapse of the fisheries the community has become dependent on two manufacturing companies and summer tourism. This community is an aging one and the two local schools are slated for closure (see http://www.southshorenow.ca/archives/072908/news/index024.php).

We are trying to help those who may not have the resources to provide Halloween costumes for their families.
