Book bans are hitting unprecedented highs, with PEN America reporting 22,810 instances of book bans in U.S public schools since the 2021 school year. These bans often target, diverse ideas and stories featuring protagonists from historically marginalized identities.

But these stories matter. They help us see the world through different perspectives and understand the richness of the human experience.

That’s why over 25,000 of you have joined the movement so far, reading banned books and standing up for intellectual freedom in your schools and communities.

BLACK HISTORY & HERITAGE MONTH

Read any of the books from our Uncensored: Black Voices banned booklist and share why you think the book shouldn't be banned. Tell us how you’ll discuss in your community the value these books and stories have on society.
