Ask Freddie: “How Do You Choose What Questions to Answer?”
Plus, meet Freddie's pets!
“Ask Freddie” is a monthly advice column where Freddie, DoSomething’s Director of Messaging, answers anonymous questions from DoSomething members. The topics are always different -- the answers are always REAL. Are you seeking advice? Ask Freddie an anonymous question.
Hi friends,
As I’m getting ready to stuff my face with all the best Thanksgiving dishes, I’ve been reflecting on all the things I’m grateful for this year. That’s the point of this holiday, right?
I wanted to take a moment and share a few of the things I’m grateful for with you, my DoSomething community, by answering a few questions you’ve asked me recently.
How do you choose what questions to answer? I know that you probably can't answer them all.
I might not be able to answer them all (though I try), but I read every single one. I pick questions that stand out to me because many people can relate, or I feel like I can offer some advice. I’m thankful for your questions because you remind me of how connected we all are. Many of you, though you come from different places, are dealing with the same stuff -- I might not answer your question, but hopefully you find something in my column that relates to you. Keep asking! I could answer yours next.
Do you have any pets?
I do! I have a cat, dog, and three goldfish. (I had four, but little Paolino passed away this summer, RIP). I’m extremely grateful to have my animals in my life. Whenever I’m feeling down in the dumps, they are always there to lift my spirits. Who couldn’t smile looking at these faces?
Buddha
Goose and her possum
Lorna, Gianni, Ernesto, and Paolino (RIP)
Pets and animals are proven to reduce stress and anxiety in humans. And my fur babies have proven that first hand. Do you have any pets? If not, consider adopting a shelter pet, or if you can’t have a pet of your own, volunteering or donating items your local animal shelter.
What’s your favorite thing about DoSomething?
I am so thankful to have the privilege to work at an organization like DoSomething that believes in the power young people have to change the world. I get to see young people make real life impact in their communities every day. How cool is that? Plus, I have the honor to have conversations with people like YOU. I’m humbled every day reading the thoughtful questions you send me, and continue to be moved with how open you are with me. Whether we’re talking about confidence, dating, figuring out who we are, what’s going on in the world, or how to have tough conversations at Thanksgiving, getting to talk to you is my favorite part!
P.S. The DoSomething staff put together a playlist of all our favorite “gratitude” songs for Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
Forever thankful for you,
Freddie
