Reducing Talking to the Driver

Your friend answered three easy questions about your habits as a driver, passenger, pedestrian, or cyclist. Now they want to give you three clutch tips for staying safe on the road! Read this lil’ personal guide on how you can avoid distracting the driver with rear seat driving or a little too much chatter.

1. Play music (at a reasonable volume) instead.

If you have a tendency to talk a driver’s ear off, cut the conversation with some music (played at a low volume). That way you can sit back, groove a little, and save your hot takes ‘til after you’re safely parked.

2. Send yourself a note.

In the notes section of your phone, write down all the things you need to tell and ask your friend. Then bring them up later when they’re not driving and when you have their full attention.

3. Selfies (seriously).

Know what doesn’t require talking? Selfies. You’ll need your full attention if you’re going to be finding your light and hitting your angles. Your friend is giving you a ride -- might as well make the trip into your own personal photoshoot, which means you won’t be distracting the driver with too much conversation

You could save a life on the road.
