See how these friends are keeping each other safe on the road.

We all know the dangers of distracted and impaired driving, but the scare tactics used by major advertisers don’t always have the desired effect on young people. That’s why young people are taking the wheel (pun intended) on this issue by using a fun, easy way to talk to their friends about staying safe on the road, powered by General Motors.

This fall and winter, DoSomething.org members showed their friends how much they care by giving them the keys to friendship. These little reminders served a big purpose -- by learning more about the dangers of driving while drunk, high, or drowsy, we could help save over 15,000 lives a year!

6. Jenna (17)

“My school has had three deaths in the past few years due to car accidents. Two out of the three of them were caused by distracted driving. My whole community has come together to help promote safe driving, and I want to do my part.”

“With this campaign, we can spread the awareness so people really see the dangers of under-the-influence driving. Maybe when they're putting the key into the ignition they will remember this Friends On Lock movement and find an alternative way home to ensure their safety.”
