They’re sitting pretty on their climate action thrones

These days, it seems like influencing has totally taken over the internet. But does that have to be a bad thing? Plenty of young people use their large social media followings to address important issues like climate change, further diversifying the discourse around each topic. Climate-conscious influencers are using their platforms to debunk climate myths, share resources, and amplify the voices of those disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis.

At DoSomething, we love how young people are revolutionizing social media this way. Now, it can be a place to create more climate-conscious spaces. Platforms like Instagram allow activists to amplify their voices, even when they come from marginalized backgrounds. Considering many of these people come from communities that are impacted the most by the climate crisis, we stan being able to listen to and learn from them.

These are the 8 climate-forward influencers we love seeing on our feed:

1. @sustainablesabs

Sabs is a proud vegan, champion of conscious fashion, fierce environmentalist, and self-proclaimed Jewess. When she’s not slaying the sustainable fashion game on Insta, she’s spilling all the tea on how to live a zero-waste lifestyle. She’s also the co-founder of @intersectionalenvironmentalist, which is an organization dedicated to promoting climate justice.

👑 Royal-tea:
Sabs is a wiz at finding new ways to avoid food waste. You know we’re obsessed with this because of our Let’s Get Scrappy campaign! One of her top tips is to freeze bread slices and pop them in the toaster and BOOM, no more moldy bread. Find more of her advice on her “food waste tips” highlight on IG.

2. @wildgina

Did someone say #triplethreat?! Wild Gina is a SciArtist, creating art that centers the beauty of science. She’s also an Intimate Landscape Photographer, and Sony Alpha Ambassador, using her photography skills to capture the most minute details of plants and animals. Scrolling through her feed feels like getting sent into a nature-filled wonderland, and we’re here for it! Gina is a strong advocate for the inclusion of Black narratives across the outdoor space and she shares the joy that nature gives her through her photography. If that isn’t enough to make you want to go frolic in a meadow, I don’t know what is. For real though, Wild Gina offers her followers a reason to protect Earth’s beauty and who doesn’t need a little reminder every once in a while?

👑 Royal-tea:
Gina spills all kinds of tips on everything from plant care to outdoors safety, and we especially love this reel that has advice on how to enjoy solo time with nature safely.

3. @queerbrownvegan

As an environmental educator, Isaias Hernandez, aka queerbrownvegan, uses his platform to motivate young people to live sustainably and embrace new ways to heal the planet. Isaias is a bit of a #cottagecore king, and we love him for that. He also co-created a climate justice storytelling magazine called Alluvia, which lifts up BIPOC voices in the environmentalism space.

👑 Royal-tea:
Did you know that there are edible plants all around you? Isaias has an amazing reel about foraging chicken of the woods mushrooms. It’s pretty mind blowing, ya’ll!

There is no Planet B.

These Green Queens and Kings treat every day like Earth Day, and you can too! Take action against climate change with our program, Yasss, Green! today.

4. @zerowastecutie

As the reigning queen of imperfect environmentalism, Elizabeth, aka zerowastecutie, serves all kinds of climate-conscious realness across multiple platforms. She’s all about providing actionable steps for taking action on environmental issues. From addressing issues on diversity in the sustainability space to sustainable alternatives to fast fashion, Elizabeth is here to make environmentalism most approachable for everyone!

👑 Royal-tea:
If you’ve ever felt the pressure to buy the trendiest clothes or constantly upgrade your phone to fit in, Elizabeth has this sweet reminder: it’s ok to repeat an outfit, buy used or second hand, and overall live a simpler life. Go off, queen! 👏

5. @diandramarizet

Always striving to bridge the gap between culture and sustainability, Diandra knows that nature plays a key role in cultural development. She works alongside fellow green royalty, Sabs, as the Executive Director of Intersectional Environmentalism where she works hard to lift up BIPOC voices in the sustainability world. They’re all about shifting the narrative of environmental storytelling to center diversity and joy, by connecting people to movements in their local communities and using their social media platforms to share resources.

👑 Royal-tea:
Looking for climate-conscious book recs? Diandra’s got you. Check out this reel with her favorites.

6. @imkevinjpatel

Kevin calls himself a “climate optimist and realist” and has 11 years of climate activism under his belt. Holy moly! He’s also the founder of OneUpAction, an organization that supports marginalized youth by giving them the resources they need to make changes in their communities. The kicker? Kevin is doing all of this while in undergrad!

👑 Royal-tea:
Kevin’s IG presence is super inspiring, and he’s always pumping out motivational quotes that read like mantras. Here’s one of our favorites.

7. @aditimayer

Aditi liiiiiives at the intersection of fashion, sustainability, and social justice. She sees fashion as a “Trojan Horse” to talk about environmental issues, and works hard to center the human impact of the climate crisis. As a visual storyteller, Aditi’s feed is immaculate, and who doesn’t want to get their style inspo and climate action goodies in the same place?

We’ve partnered with Adti because she’s been such a fierce advocate for climate justice in the US and beyond. Watch her story here!

👑 Royal-tea:
One of the most interesting pieces that Aditi has written recently was this one for Vogue, where she addresses what the new social media trend of “deinfluencing” might mean for sustainability efforts. It’s some serious food for thought!

8. @whatsgoodberto

By now we all know that veganism is good for the planet. But is it always accessible? Berto is here to tell you that yes, it sure can be! As a vegan food and fitness influencer, Berto page is full of recipes and workouts, so if you’re thinking of tackling climate change by reducing your meat and dairy consumption, he’s your guy!

👑 Royal-tea:
This is the only vegan burger recipe you’ll ever need. Thank you, Berto 🙏

These influencers are proof that social media is a powerful tool for change. From sharing tips on reducing food waste, to slaying the sustainable fashion game, to making the most delicious vegan recipes, these Green Queens and Kings are truly slaying on their platforms and we can’t wait to see where their journeys take them.
