The VCN Get Out the Vote Guide
A guide to help support your voter registration drive in your community.

Updated: March 14, 2026
If you have or are thinking of signing up to run a voter registration drive in your community as part of DoSomething's VCN (Voter Catalyst Network), congratulations -- you are in the right place! We’re so excited to support your voter registration drive in your community. Registering to vote is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to make a difference in your community.
Since DoSomething is a non-profit dedicated to making sure that all young people’s voices are heard, all voter registration drives must remain non-partisan. This means that your voter registration drive can tell people WHY they should vote but not WHO they should vote for. All communication to and from VCN members should follow the simple rule that no candidates or parties should play any role in talking about voting.
‼️ Specific things NOT to do while running a drive:
- Endorse a candidate
- Criticize elected officials
- Endorse specific legislation
- Connect particular stances on issues to the importance of voting
Now that that's settled, let's get started!
Running Your Voter Registration Drive
Step 1: Build Your Team!
Step 2: Alert Your Administration (for drives at school)
Step 3: Pick Your Location!

Step 5: The Voter Registration Form
Step 6: Train Your Volunteers!
Step 7: Promote Your Drive!
Step 8: Host Your Drive!
Step 9: Thank Your Volunteers!
Step 12: Celebrate your AWESOME work!
