It Pays to Do Good

It can be challenging to find support, and as someone who has experienced anxiety and depression, I can understand how difficult it can be to recognize, communicate, and treat these symptoms. We need to educate ourselves and others to recognize the signs of mental health problems and learn how to address them effectively. This DoSomething campaign aimed at young adults encourages taking action in this regard and, most importantly, provides us with the necessary tools. It is a campaign that shares practices that should be taught more often in schools, workplaces, and households. By increasing awareness and doing something, we can support each other—regardless of place, person, or circumstances—to improve mental health awareness, brighten the days of individuals, and potentially save lives.”

It can help other adolescents know that they are not alone in their personal struggles and that there are a plethora of resources available to help them succeed. Without the tools that the DoSomething organization has implemented through their Certified Bestie program and course, I would not be able to help myself, my peers, and my community grow and persevere in the way that it has with this educational resource. So many facets of society exploit the lack of resources that teenagers deserve in order to better their mental health and wellness. By taking this opportunity to learn more about how to make a change to this, I can continue to be a part of the change that the world and my peers deserve to have.”

In this social media dominated era, expectations are forever influencing our actions, personality, and fostering anxieties to be perfect and accepted. But Mind Craft allows you to craft your mind into a tranquil inner world through crafting with creativity!”

When I got to high school, I went to a STEM based program and struggled my entire 10th grade year , due to my schedule consisting of STEM courses. Since I attended an early college, I started taking college classes my junior year, and I wanted to pursue nursing. I knew pre-nursing courses consisted primarily of STEM, and I let my 10th grade year be a lesson learned. I started taking my STEM classes with a changed mindset of 'I can and I will understand this information.' This resulted in me making all A’s in the science pre-nursing courses. I want my story to inspire young people to believe in the fact that they can understand hard topics and excel in school.”

My best friend has struggled with mental health since we were kids, and she didn’t open up to me about it for many years. I always felt bad that I didn’t know what to say or do to help her, but after going through the DoSomething courses I got a better understanding of how she felt, and the steps she could take to get help. This campaign helped me be more mindful of others feelings and emotions, and I have shared and will continue to share the exercises and practices that I learned in the Wellness Education Lab courses.”

Campaigns such as this one which encourage people to give art a try as a way to protect their mental wellbeing are a great way to eliminate some of this fear. In a time where so many people are struggling with their mental health, small actions, such as expressing yourself through art, can add up and help you improve your mental health."
