11 Things You Should Know About Sahara Lake
She voiced a PBS commercial as a third-grader.
Name?
Sahara Lake
Where are you from?
White Plains, NY
What do you do (at DoSomething)?
Senior Manager, Community Impact. That means I work to make sure our DoSomething campaigns best serve our members and their communities.
1) What’s your pet cause?
Education Justice.
2) Who or what is guaranteed to make you laugh?
Videos of little kids doing silly and funny things.
3) What's something that you watch, read, or listen to to make you feel inspired?
The book Untamed by Glennon Doyle is honestly what has gotten me through 2020. I’m also a big fan of Brene Brown. In general, reading stories of creatives and leaders, particularly Black women, and how they got to where they are in their career is always inspiring to me.
4) What’s your guilty pleasure?
I try not to feel guilty about any of my pleasure, but my true crime obsession sometimes concerns me.
5) What do people usually come to you for help with?
Friends come to me for advice about a lot of things. They come to me when they want “straight talk.” I’m pretty direct and tell it like it is. On a lighter note, people also come to me for a quick synopsis about the latest celebrity scandal.
6) What is your most overused emoji?
The sideways crying laughing face.
7) What takes up too much of your time?
Social media -- if I deleted Instagram and TikTok, I could do so much more with my days!
8) What silly accomplishment or hidden talent are you most proud of?
In third grade, I won a storytelling contest. I also did a voiceover for a PBS kids commercial. Honestly, I’m just really proud of third grade Sahara. It might have been my peak.
9) What’s something you know way too much about?
Once again, celebrity gossip. Specifically, but not limited to, the Kardashian’s family tree, the backstory behind Rumours by Fleetwood Mac, and Dennis Rodman’s romantic history.
10) What's the biggest change you'd like to see in the world in the next five years?
Woof, this is a big question. I think entering 2021, we are building some really good momentum to make some real change in this world. I hope by 2026, we are even closer to true equity for Black and Brown folks.
11) What’s your favorite DoSomething memory or tradition?
This is not technically a DoSomething tradition, but I’ve made some lifelong friends here, and this summer, we went on vacation together to Maine, and it was a definite highlight of my 2020.
