The DoSomething Community Unleashed the Power of Sports to Impact COVID-19

First, BIG congratulations and thanks on stepping up during the #oneteam challenge. We had 35,805 DoSomething members join our team and make a difference for essential workers, our friends, and our communities when they needed it most.

Our Impact

DoSomething members made 9,880 DIY masks in their school colors to make sure our life-saving uniforms are complete. We also saw an additional 13,083 signs of gratitude for the real MVPs (aka essential workers), virtual practices with teammates, stickies to encourage hand-washing (aka the “20-second drill”), awards for impact players, and songs for our #oneteam challenge playlist.

Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to DoSomething member Lauren, 17! She made signs to thank and encourage our essential workers and earned the #oneteamchallenge scholarship for weeks 4-6.

Lauren says:

“The #oneteam challenge campaign motivated me to think outside the box so I could demonstrate my respect for those on the front lines against Covid-19,” Lauren says. “This challenge was fun because it gave me something to do while I was stuck in quarantine and it gave me a lot to think about. I enjoyed participating in the challenge and I encourage other students to join in on DoSomething scholarship opportunities!”

Our other #oneteamchallenge scholarship winner is Erika, who made homemade masks and posted signs of appreciation for essential workers.

Erika says:

“We are made to work together with others,” Erika says. “If we all work together right now we'll make it out alright. That is why this campaign is important to me. Because we are all in this together. Together we can make an impact on our communities during this virus that attempts to pull us apart.”

What You Can Do Next

We know that fighting racial injustice is top of mind for many of you right now. We want to honor community organizations that are a part of your #oneteam by giving them a $500 grant to support their hard work fighting for racial justice. Nominate an organization by filling out this application. By nominating an organization in need, you can support their work and propel this movement forward. The application closes on this Friday, June 12. On June 22, we will be announcing our 50 winning members and organizations.
