Online Content Creator Leo Carmona Has a Message For His Besties This Election Season!

Hey DoSomething community, I’m Leo Carmona! I’m a 22 year old student majoring in Business Marketing & Advertising with a minor in Political Science.

Since politics and government have always directly impacted me (coming from a first generation Mexican-American Household), I wanted to share with you why I’m voting this election season, and how you can too!

From a young age I felt the need to vote stay informed on American standards as it gave my voice more power for those in my family who don’t have American citizenship. I have always been interested in politics. I’m a content creator on social media @leoocarmona with niches like beauty and lifestyle yet, I often find myself posting political awareness on issues like gun control, reproductive rights, education. At the heart of making change, I encourage my besties (my online community) to register to vote!

As soon as I turned 18 I was eligible to vote in the 2020 presidential election, my first election where I was able to vote! I was over the moon. When I was registering to vote in my home state of California I did not yet have a big online following yet. I still encouraged others to register to vote and hosted a voter registration event at my workplace! As I have now participated in different election cycles, this presidential election is more important to me now more than ever.

Now, I have a larger digital platform and I believe that it’s my job to promote awareness and political education to my followers as it is something very important to me. I come from a first generation voting family and I feel that makes my vote extra special as it accounts to their voices as well. This is something very important to me and my voting journey.

I’m here to let you, my new besties know, to not only register to vote but to educate yourselves on which candidates you are voting into office. As time changes Gen Z becomes a more powerful force! There is a lot at stake for this upcoming election and I want to remind Gen Z of the power we hold. We make up 41 million potential voters for this upcoming election and our voices are becoming the standard. We have seen youth voters make progressive change in countries like Mexico and I’m proud to say I’m very fortunate to live in a time where America is so close to potentially having its first female president. Madam president.

I kindly ask you to do the following: register to vote, educate yourself on your electoral ballot, and vote for what you are showing up for.
