The Top 5 Things DoSomething Members Did in October!

You continue to inspire and amaze.

WOW. What else can we say? Month in and month out, DoSomething members like you around the country amaze and inspire with the way you transform your communities. October -- no surprise -- was no different. Check out five of the most incredible things DoSomething members did last month!

1) Powered Historic Youth Voter Turnout

It's official. Thanks to DoSomething members like you, The Youth Wave is here. You knocked on doors, texted your friends, and tabled at your schools, helping us register over 108,000 new voters and mobilize our 6 million member base. While the election was in November, it was your work in October and before that powered an extraordinary 47% increase in midterm voting from 2014 to 2018. To those who said young people wouldn't vote: thank u, next.

“New voters are not educated on the process of voting and are not experienced in political participation yet, so providing the resources and knowledge about this important topic is crucial! Every vote matters, whether it’s evident to an individual or not, so helping my peers understand that their own voice is important helps our country as a whole.” - Megan, 17

2) Helped Save Lives By Keeping Their Friends Safe on the Road

Everyone knows impaired driving is dangerous. Problem is, warnings from parents and scare tactics from ads don’t always make young drivers and passengers safer on the road. Know what does? Reminders from friends...friends like you!

Through our brand-new Friends On Lock campaign, DoSomething members are giving their friends a key and a note that says “text SAFE to 38383.” When friends text in, they get pro tips on preventing driving while drunk, high, or drowsy. (Check out the Friends On Lock video starring Diego Tinoco of Netflix’s On My Block!)

“I worked in a bar all throughout high school to help save for college and I got so tired of watching people stumble out to their cars. Some people would let me call them a cab or a friend, others wouldn’t. THANK YOU for providing this opportunity to spread awareness, make a difference, and hopefully save some lives.” - Jacquelyn, 23

“I love the way that you present the message of not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs by encouraging friends to look out for one another through effective dialogue. This campaign is a great way of strengthening the relationship between friends and keeping them safe.” - Ariel, 17

3) Demanded Change Online, in Their Schools, and at All Levels of Government

Grab the Mic is DoSomething’s groundbreaking year-long campaign to create the most civically active generation ever. Over 204,002 members have signed up to get loud about a new issue every month, from sending Happy Ramadan cards to mosques affected by hate crimes, to sharing resources for survivors of sexual assault, to supporting the LGBTQ+ community at Pride events around the country. Want to Grab the Mic? Sign up to help your friends de-stress in November.

4) Educated Their Friends About What’s Really in E-Cigs

How similar are e-cigs, vapes, and JUUL to regular cigarettes? And what are e-cig companies hiding from young people? Over 30,402 DoSomething members have signed up to take our Escape the Vape quiz powered by CVS Health Foundation and tell their friends the real deal about these addictive products. Check out this (literally) mind-blowing video with Joel Courtney, star of The Kissing Booth on Netflix.

5) Inspired Celebrities and Influencers to Speak Out

DoSomething members have registered their peers to vote at historic levels, and big-name talent has taken notice. Tons of celebs and influencers have supported our voter registration and get out the vote efforts, from Joshua Rush and Kalen Allen to Lauren Jauregui and Marcus Scribner.
